Voices of Recovery: Keven’s Story

Editorial TeamGeneral, testimonial

What does recovery from addiction really look like? It’s not a straight line, and for many, it’s defined by a single moment of clarity—a breakthrough that changes everything. But often, that change is first seen through the eyes of someone who loves us.

At Milestone Treatment Center, we believe in the power of shared experience. Our team is built on a foundation of empathy, with many staff members who have walked the path of recovery themselves. This firsthand experience is not just a part of our program; it’s the heart of how we connect with our clients.

We recently sat down with Milestone’s Director of Operations, Kevin Pecorello, to talk about his journey. He shared the pivotal conversation with his mother that showed him how much he had grown, how he uses his own story to support clients, and his heartfelt advice for individuals and families facing addiction.

His story is a testament to the fact that recovery is possible and that the most difficult first steps can lead to a beautiful new life. Taking that first step is the hardest part, and we believe navigating the logistics shouldn’t hold you back. Our team is dedicated to making the process seamless, including working directly with your private insurance provider to ensure you can focus entirely on healing.

Read on to hear Kevin’s story in his own words—a story of hope, change, and the light that returns with sobriety.

Video Transcript: A Conversation with Kevin Pecorello

1. What was the breakthrough moment in your recovery journey?

Breakthrough moment in my recovery was when I was on the field with my mom. I was in treatment. I was going through some adversity and I called her to ask her for her advice… That kind of like it hit me like a ton of bricks because I didn’t even see the change within myself, you know… these small change behaviors that my mom noticed with me… is what really motivated me to keep following my recovery journey.

2. How does your story help you connect with clients here?

I think my story helps me connect with the clients here because I’ve been through treatment myself, so I understand the adversity that they face asking for help and accepting the help… I’m able to understand where they’re at and how I can best help them.

3. What’s your best advice for someone just beginning their recovery?

My best advice for someone just beginning their recovery would be to take suggestions, to sit still and to allow their self the time to heal and recover. You know, really listening to other people is how I got to where I’m at, because when I make my own decisions, I don’t end up in the greatest places.

4. What would you say to parents, partners, or friends who have someone in rehab?

I would tell family members… to stand firm in their boundaries, to try their best not to enable negative behaviors, and to love from a distance until their loved one is ready to really receive the help that they need.

5. What do you love most about helping people at Milestone?

What I love most about helping people at Milestone is seeing the success stories. I’m seeing people get their family back, get their life back on track… and see the light glimmer in their eyes again because they’re happy.
